Can I file for a Bankruptcy if I am about to inherit money?
An inheritance cannot be protected by a bankruptcy.  The court trustee will investigate and may disqualify the bankruptcy for reasons of inheritance.  The best option is to speak with a bankruptcy attorney about the need for a bankruptcy and a recent inheritance or the possibility of an inheritance.  The attorney will advise as to the best way to proceed.

How do I know if a bankruptcy is my best option?

One way to determine if you need a bankruptcy is to itemize your living expenses such as rent/mortgage, car payments, utilities, food, and clothing. Take these expenses and compare these to your earnings. Do not include your debt. Do you have money left over that could be used to repay debt? Could you repay your entire debt within 3 years?
